What class A4 indicates
A4 is the highest Italian energy class. It is determined through the certificate’s calculation method, not structural material alone. The nZEB designation concerns specific requirements and should not be used as an automatic synonym for the class. Define and verify the relevant project targets.
The envelope before equipment
Walls, roof, floors and windows enclose the villa. Design checks insulation, junctions and penetrations alongside orientation and shading. Limiting heat loss is only part of the task: summer conditions and room use need consideration from the architectural stage.
Ventilation, heat pump and solar PV
Mechanical ventilation renews air and can recover some heat from exhaust air. A heat pump serves heating, cooling and hot water according to the specified configuration. PV generates electricity according to the installation and conditions. These are distinct functions requiring sizing and coordination with the building.
From design to certificate
Compare the design target with the actual building and installed services. Changes to windows, insulation or equipment may require updates. Keep the certificate, energy documents and equipment information. Assess operating costs using tariffs, habits and maintenance too: the certificate is not a future bill.
